Our Galaxy, the Milky Way
Before the 1990s, it was difficult for astronomers to research the Milky Way, but the invention of the space telescopes since then have made it possible. The Milky Way is only one of a multitude of galaxies. It was the invention of the Hubble telescope that led to the discovery of the Andromeda galaxy and that the Milky Way is not the only one in the universe.
Our galaxy is a spiral galaxy and is about 100,000 light-years across. There's a supermassive black hole known as Sagittarius A sitting in the center of our galaxy. This black hole is what everything in the Milky Way revolves around.
